Micropolitan ?
Findlay was rated the nation’s sixth best micropolitan community for economic growth in 2011, according to Site Selection magazine.
Findlay jumped 19 spots from last year’s 25th place ranking. Micropolitan areas are those with populations of 10,000 to 50,000.
Hoisting Findlay’s rating were the arrival of some new manufacturers and expansions by existing companies. Hamlet Protein has opened a piglet feeds factory, which employs 25. Auto parts manufacturer MITEC will begin production in Findlay in a few weeks with 13 to 20 employees. It plans to hire an additional 80 within a year. An expansion at Nissin Brake last year added 135 jobs, and Marathon Petroleum Corporation's spinoff, which added 100 jobs.
"Findlay-Hancock County is proud to again be ranked as one of the top micropolitan communities in the United States," said Findlay-Hancock County Economic Development Director Tony Iriti. "We are grateful for the efforts of our community’s business and public sector leaders as well as our economic development partners that strive to make Findlay and Hancock County a great place to live, work and play."
In addition, the State of Ohio won the 2011 Governor’s Cup from Site Selection magazine after coming in second for 2010 cup.
