Bruce D Basil

Bruce D Basil, 66, of Cass Twp., Hancock County, passed away at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at his residence. He was born on August 3, 1947, to the late Lloyd and Grace (Germann) Basil in Van Wert, OH. He married Sharon Kiehl on June 27, 1970, and she survives.

Bruce is also survived by his daughters: Amy (Chris) Petersburg of Williamston, MI and Tracy Leliaert of Van Buren; twin brother, Brent (Patricia) Basil of Westchester, OH; and grandchildren: Alex and Kate Petersburg and Trace Leliaert.

Bruce loved spending time with his children and grandchildren at the cottage on Ball Lake in Hamilton, IN. He was a member of First United Church of Christ in Findlay, OH where he was currently serving on the church council and as church treasurer. Bruce was the official score keeper and statistician for the Van Buren High School boys basketball teams for more than 25 years.

He was an electrical engineer in the automotive industry for over 40 years.

Bruce was actively involved in Masonic organizations. He served as and received: Past Master of Findlay Lodge #227 Free and Accepted Masons, Past High Priest of Van Wert Chapter #71 Royal Arch Masons, Past Illustrious Master of Van Wert Council #73 Royal and Select Masons, Past Commander of Ivanhoe Commandery #54 Knights Templar & Findlay Commandery #49 Knights Templar, Knight of the Grand York Cross of Honor (November 1981), Past Commander-in-Chief of Toledo Consistory Sublime Princes of the Royal Secret Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Honorary 33rd Degree Mason (Aug. 31, 1993 in Boston, MA), Member Royal Order of Scotland, Northwestern Council #138 Allied Masonic Degrees, Member Sovereign York Rite College #7, Member Tall Cedars of Lebanon-Ohio Northern Forest #188, Member Knight Masons of Ireland Shannon Council #28, Member Peace Tabernacle #10 Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priest, Member St. Thomas Red Cross Conclave, Member Charlemagne Red Cross Conclave, Member Blackstone #195 York Rite College, Past Patron of Findlay Order of Eastern Star #23, Rainbow Grand Cross of Color & DeMolay Legion of Honor for working with the youth.

His passion was serving as Drill Captain for Ivanhoe Commandery #54 Knights Templar & Findlay Commandery #49 Knights Templar, where Both teams were awarded the title "National Champions" several times under his direction. He was Chairman of Competitive Drill for Grand Encampment Knights Templar of the U.S.A. Bruce was also past Grand Commander of Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Ohio, past Grand Recorder of Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Ohio, Elected to Grand Commander Emeritus (Oct. 2013), and Aide to Most Eminent Grand Master of Grand Encampment Knights Templar of the U.S.A.

Family will receive visitors at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay on Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 2:00-4:00 & 5:00-8:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7:45 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. William Smith officiating. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at the Findlay Masonic Complex on Sunday, November, 24, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio and/or to the First United Church of Christ.
