A tribute

6 degrees of separation.
10 years have passed since the day the world changed. For most of us, our lives continued with daily decisions and stresses. For some, 9/11/2011 created a void that will never fill. Distant from NYC, we were complacent to believe that we cried for the strangers who lost their lives, or the atrocious act of the terrorists, or for a relative that was in the tower that did not make it out, or the fireman who is the relative, or the families left behind by the relative, or the nephews who just lost their Uncle.

10 years later, like every year, I look up on what my beloved city looks like. Interestingly this is the conversation between the 8 year old and I,
"Look at that picture," I said.
"Lieutenant Vincent Gerard Halloran Street," she read, then turned to look at me, almost registering what she read.
"Yep, that is your cousin's Uncle. That is his street."

To understand the dynamics, the children and their cousins play together well including stories of their extended families, so he was everyone's Uncle too.

This is his street, http://www.flickr.com/photos/sheenachi/3270140277/sizes/z/in/photostream/.

But I am sure his wife, 5 boys and 10 year old daughter will like him at home instead.

Someone will make a movie from this

The Medal of Honor, only for those who humbly serve others with the most sacrifice.

Remember the name Dakota L. Meyer, because a movie will be made in his honor.

PS: I will be honored to shake his hand.

What is the next question?

Okay, it should have been more details with the last entry.
What kind of pies?

2 apple pies, 1 mixed berry, 1 sugar cream and 1 experimental puff pastry sugar cream thing.

Back to quality control, aka pie tasting.

Enough pie

This is what happens when you want pie, and there are no pie place around. Nothing like home-made pies, not home-BAKED.

4AM

It is 4am on July 21, 2011.
I am sitting in the dark, watching NASA TV on my laptop, eagerly watching and waiting for the next chapter of the space program.

How we took for granted that there will be another shuttle launch or landing. Well our complacency has caught up with us and we missed our marks by marathon distances.
The reality, this is it!
The last lift-off and the last landing.

November 26, 1985, I witnessed the launch of Shuttle Atlantis, mission STS 61B from the same launch pad, 39A.
The mission in 1985  released satellites into the communication grid for phones to work without wires. In those days we just scratched our heads at the prospects of having a telephone that is not attached to the wall. Whatever that engineer meant by something called GPS for traveling, sure, we have maps in the car we are doing just fine.

Now, I am sending this via a wireless router through a coaxial cable that will transmit this information via satellite to the server in seconds. What phone on the wall?

I should have sent this earlier, GODSPEED ATLANTIS!

Safe landing too.
I'll be watching on my laptop through a wireless connection, thanks to you.

Found the dog

Finally the green prairie aka backyard received the much needed manicure.
The non-stop rain produced grass almost 1 foot tall.
Jellii is about 8 inches tall.
We can see Jellii now, especially when the she decides to eat the garden, again.

Rest in Peace

The capture and demise of Osama Bin Laden is sweet revenge.
The world changed that day because of his twisted prejudice..

Finally Patient Justice prevails.

For the uncle of my children's cousin, Vincent Gerard Halloran, rest in peace.
Vincent Gerard Halloran was lost in the line of duty of New York City Fire Department, Ladder 8.

Farewell

Without too much fanfare, we released the last 2 surviving rabbits into the wild. The milk supplement was not as enticing as free grass. They happily chomp on the damp greens and slowly disappeared into the brush.
Lesson learned: rabbits are fragile, and milk supplement is expensive.

Day 4

Today is day 4 since these furballs moved in.

We are 1 less this morning, the runt did not make it through the night.

They are dropper fed twice daily, may I reiterate DROPPER.

What we heard this mornig

The door swings open, the resident Elf Lord appears holding her right shoe. "I have to clean off poop from my shoe!"
Elf Lord's Mom said, "Clean it off on the grass."
Elf Lord, "That was how I got dog poop on my shoe! The poop was hiding in the tall grass!"

The solution to this problem, clean the shoe on the grass.
This time use the grass in front of the house, where there is no dog poop, yet.

More babies in the house

Before the grandparents get too excited, these are not technically babies to keep. We heard squeak, squeak, looked over and the neighbour's dog is chasing after something. Lo and behold, that looks like a bunny. 2 grown men started foraging under the bushes and we ended up the night doing this ..... All FOUR of them. Can someone say glutton for punishment?
