Too close to home

Bangkok, crowded with street merchants, Tut-tuts (pron. toot-toot) filled the streets, a cab fare is negotiated before boarding, food stalls omnipresence with aroma of fragrant meats and vegetables. All in all, Tranquility. That is the Thailand I will always remember. Bali, chimes from beautiful gongs immersed with the clear blue seas and perfume of teak. That felt like such a distant memory, recent unsettling events in South East Asia has been difficult, for anyone.

Ten years ago was the last time I was home, the political and emotional turmoil has taken a new landscape. Bombings, natural disasters, upheavals of pain, seems like the most recent news of SE Asia.

Unfortunately the 9/11 has reached SE Asia. The close knitted countries have a new challenge, continue to exist as seperate entities or make an effort to assist. Any joint efforts will strengthen their resolve against terror. Somehow a generation is lost in the abyss of anger, the generation who forgot about grandma or grandpa fighting for freedom and peace.

To those who hurt, please stop. Think about who you are hurting, sri wari kup. Peace to you.
